The Town
Discover Aroue
Aroue is a small and peaceful village marking the entry of the pilgrim into the historic Basque province of Soule (Sola). In this stage of the Via Podiensis, the landscape undulates and the atmosphere changes, acquiring the characteristics of French Basque Country. The locality is a haven of peace, ideal for a quiet rest. Its church and the discoidal stela of Etchebarne are testaments to local culture. Although with basic services, it is an authentic stop that allows the walker to connect with rural Basque surroundings before the important junction of roads at Ostabat.
