Azambuja is a Portuguese village in the Ribatejo region, a peaceful stop on the Central Portuguese Way. Its surroundings, dominated by fertile Tajo plain, are predominantly agricultural, with vast fields of cultivation. For pilgrims, Azambuja offers a peaceful rest and basic services needed to continue the journey. The parish church and its pelourinho (picota) are the main landmarks of its modest heritage.
