The Town
Discover Dax
Dax, one of France's most important thermal stations, is a stop for well-being and rest on the Turonian Way. Famous since ancient Roman times for its hot waters and healing muds, the town offers the pilgrim the unique opportunity to take a restorative break. The heart of Dax is the Fontaine Chaude (Hot Spring), from which water flows at 64°C, a symbol of the city. The walker can relax in one of its many thermal establishments. In addition to its balneological aspect, Dax has an interesting heritage, such as the Cathedral of Notre-Dame and remains of the Gallo-Roman walls. The town, with a strong tradition of bullfighting and festivity, has an animated atmosphere. For the Camino de Santiago pilgrim, it is the last major city of services in the Landes region before entering the more undulating landscapes of French Basque Country. It's an stage that invites to take care of one's body and recover strength for the final straight towards the Pyrenees.
