Estella, or Lizarra in Basque, is a monumental town born for and of the Way of St James. Settled on the banks of the River Ega, it flourished during the Middle Ages thanks to pilgrims, leaving an exceptional heritage that earned it the nickname "the Toledo of the north". Its old town is an outdoor museum, where Romanesque jewels stand out such as the Palace of the Kings of Navarre, St Peter's Church with its magnificent cloister, and St Michael's Church.
