Discover Jaca
Jacé, the self-proclaimed "Pearl of the Pyrenees", is the first major city and monumental heart of the Way of Aragon. With a rich past as the first capital of the Kingdom of Aragón, it offers the pilgrim one of the most culturally important stops on all the Jacobean routes. Its main treasure is the Cathedral of St Peter, one of the earliest and most important Romanesque cathedrals in Spain, whose architecture and historiated capitals influenced the entire Camino de Santiago. A visit to its Diocesan Museum, with its collection of medieval painting, is indispensable. Another of its great attractions is the imposing Citadel, a pentagonal fortress from the 16th century perfectly preserved. The old town of Jaca buzzes with life, with lively streets, excellent mountain cuisine and a complete range of services for pilgrims. It's the ideal place to take a break, to immerse yourself in the origins of Romanesque and Aragonese history, and to enjoy the Pyrenean atmosphere before continuing on to Puente la Reina.
