Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage continues through the Vinalopó valley in a gentle slope terrain. The landscape is dominated by vineyards and fields of cultivation. It's a transition day that brings the pilgrim closer to the province's interior. The destination is Villena, a city with an impressive historical heritage, dominated by its majestic Castle of the Lookout. Its Treasure, one of Europe's most important prehistoric findings, is a must-visit.
The stage that connects Elda with Villena is a gentle profile walk that continues to climb the Vinalopó valley. The landscape remains dominated by vineyards and fields of cultivation. Arrival in Villena is the day's great prize. This historic city is dominated by the imposing Castle of La Atalaya, an Arab origin fortress magnificently preserved. But the greatest treasure of Villena is its Treasure, a spectacular collection of Bronze Age gold pieces that can be admired at the archaeological museum. The old town of Villena, with its churches and palaces, completes an exceptional heritage. It's a monumental stop on the Way of the Wool.
