Manzanares el Real, nestled in an privileged setting at the feet of La Pedriza, in the Sierra de Guadarrama, is the endpoint of the Camino Mendocino and the meeting point with the Madrid Way. The village is famous for its spectacular Castle of the Mendoza family, one of the best preserved medieval-renacentist fortresses in all of Spain. For pilgrims, the view of the castle, with its towers and battlements reflected in the waters of the Santillana reservoir, is an image of breathtaking beauty and the crowning glory of the Mendocino route. The castle, which can be visited, transports the traveler to the era of great noble castellans. In addition to the castle, Manzanares el Real is the entrance to La Pedriza, a paradise for hikers and climbers. The locality offers all the necessary services for walkers, making it the perfect place for rest and enjoying nature before continuing on the unified route towards Segovia.
