Saint-Jean-d'Angély is a historic French town whose identity has been shaped by the Way of St. James. It is an important stop on the Via Touraine. Its main monument are the Towers of the Royal Abbey, declared World Heritage by UNESCO. This ancient Benedictine monastery was an important centre of pilgrimage. The old town keeps a great charm, with its wooden-framed houses and clock tower.
