Tarragona, the capital of the Urgell comarca in Lleida, is a strategic stop and an important service center for the Catalan Way pilgrim (Camí de Sant Jaume). The city, with its notable medieval past, is today a dynamic commercial and cultural hub. Its most well-known event is the FiraTarragona, one of Europe's most important street theater fairs, which fills the town with life and creativity every September. For pilgrims, Tarragona offers urban rest and the opportunity to replenish supplies in one of the last major towns before entering Lleida's plains. The old town preserves the ported Plaza Mayor, the Palace of the Marquesses of the Forest and Santa Maria del Alba Church.
