Stage Description
This is a long and demanding stage that traverses a landscape of hills and deep valleys. It's a rough ride, with continuous ups and downs. The road crosses the Sense River, which marks the linguistic border between German-speaking Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland. Arrival in Heitenried, a village in the canton of Fribourg, is a well-deserved rest after a day of great effort. This stage requires good physical preparation but rewards with spectacular landscapes.
The stage from Amsoldingen to Heitenried is a 28.5 km long journey that ventures into a landscape of deep hills and valleys. The trail starts in Amsoldingen (645 m) and faces a very rugged profile, with continuous ups and downs that test the pilgrim's endurance. The route traverses a rural landscape of great beauty, with isolated farms, forests and panoramic views. A key moment in the stage is the crossing of the Sense River, which not only serves as a geographical barrier but also linguistic border (the "Röstigraben") between German-speaking Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland. Arrival at Heitenried (770 m), already in the canton of Fribourg, marks the end of an demanding but very rewarding stage. It is a journey that offers total immersion in rural and authentic Switzerland, away from tourist circuits, and allows the pilgrim to experience the country's cultural diversity.
