Stage Description

The Via Turonensis begins at the heart of Paris, at the feet of Saint-Jacques Tower. This first stage is an urban and peri-urban journey that allows for a gradual departure from the great metropolis. The path seeks out parks and green zones to make the transition more pleasant. It's a day to bid farewell to the capital's bustle and begin tuning into the pilgrim's rhythm. Arrival in Massy, a city on the southern periphery, marks the end of the first contact with the road.
The inaugural stage of the Via Turonensis from Paris is a 20km journey that serves as a transition from the vibrant center of the capital to its quieter suburbs. Starting from the iconic Saint-Jacques Tower (35m), the pilgrim traverses the city southwards, following a route that seeks out pleasant spaces for walkers such as the banks of the Seine and various urban parks. This initial stage is an opportunity to bid farewell to iconic monuments and gradually immerse oneself in the spirit of the journey. As one leaves the center, the landscape transforms, moving from broad avenues to residential zones and peri-urban parks. The profile of this stage is a very gentle but constant ascent, gaining altitude almost imperceptibly. Arrival at Massy (155m), an important city in the Parisian suburbs, marks the end of an acclimatisation journey. Massy provides all necessary services for the pilgrim to rest and prepare to enter the French countryside. This stage, lacking great scenic attractions, fulfils its essential function of removing the walker from the great city and placing him on the path towards Santiago.
