This is a short and gentle stage that runs through the fertile Cordobesan countryside. The landscape is dominated by olive groves, which produce one of the world's most famous oils. The path is comfortable, on dirt tracks that allow for a relaxed walk. It's a transition day, ideal for recovering strength and enjoying the tranquility of rural Andalusian surroundings. Arrival in Castro del Río, a village with notable historical heritage, including a castle and a Roman bridge, tops off an easy day on the Mozárabe Way.
The stage that connects the villages of Baena and Castro del Río is a pleasant stroll through the heart of Cordoba's countryside, one of the world's main olive oil-producing areas. With a predominantly descending profile and no difficulties, this short section is perfect for a peaceful and restorative walk. The trail leaves Baena and immediately plunges into a landscape of gentle hills covered with an olive grove. The route runs along white agricultural paths in a beautiful and serene environment. Passersby stroll past numerous Andalusian farmhouses that dot the landscape. The pilgrim crosses the Guadajoz River, whose course will accompany them until the end of the stage. It's a day to enjoy the scenery, nature sounds, and southern light. Arrival at Castro del Río is the perfect ending to a tranquil day. This historic village, of Roman origin, boasts an interesting heritage. Its castle-fortress, Roman bridge, and old town with cobblestone streets deserve a visit. It's a place with all necessary services for pilgrims and a welcoming atmosphere, ideal for sampling local cuisine and excellent olive oil from the region.
