Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This is one of the longest stages on the route, a crossing over the Tajo plain. The profile is completely flat, but the distance makes it a challenge. The landscape is agricultural, with large areas of cultivation. The route passes through several small towns. The destination is Talavera de la Reina, one of the most important cities in Castilla-La Mancha, famous worldwide for its ceramics. Its monumental heritage and lively atmosphere make it a highly recommended stop.
The stage that connects Torrijos with Talavera de la Reina is a long journey that follows the course of the Tajo River. The profile is very favorable, almost flat, but the distance demands good preparation. The landscape is that of fertile Tajo Valley, with large areas of irrigation. The route passes through several towns, such as Carmena and El Carpio de Tajo. Arrival in Talavera de la Reina marks the end of the stage. This important city is worldwide known for its ceramics, a tradition dating back to centuries. It is indispensable to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Prado, considered the "Sixth Century Chapel of Ceramics", and stroll through its old town to admire the azulejo murals that decorate its streets. Additionally, Talavera has a rich heritage, with its walls, bridges, and churches. The city offers a great range of services and a very complete final stage.
