Stage Description
This stage marks the departure of the Ribeira Sacra to venture into the Deza region. The journey involves ascending to O Faro High Point, the highest point on the Winter Way. The ascent is long and demanding, but the views from the top, with its hermitage and lookout, are spectacular. After reaching the summit, a long descent takes the pilgrim to a landscape of meadows and forests. The destination is Rodeiro, a peaceful cattle village that offers well-deserved rest after the difficult mountain journey.
The stage that connects Chantada with Rodeiro is the queen stage of mountain of Winter Way. The pilgrim faces the ascent to Monte Faro, the highest point on the entire route. The climb is long and sustained, requiring good physical preparation. As altitude gains are made, views of Ribeira Sacra are impressive. At the top, over 1,100 meters high, there is the hermitage of Our Lady of O Faro, an important center of Marian devotion. Panoramic views from here, which cover all four Galician provinces on clear days, are unforgettable. After the summit, a long descent towards Deza's comarca begins. The landscape changes, and vineyards give way to meadows and forests. Arrival in Rodeiro, a tranquil cattle village, marks the end of the stage. It is an ideal place to recover from the great effort made.
