Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage is the heart of Ribeira Sacra. The route is a continuous up and down through a heroic wine landscape that protrudes to the Miño River. The views of the river canyons are spectacular. It's a beautiful but demanding day. The route passes by small Romanesque churches. The arrival in Chantada, a village with an animated old town on the banks of the Asma River, offers a final stage with great wine and tradition flavor.
The stage between Monforte de Lemos and Chantada is an immersion into the heart of Ribeira Sacra. The profile is a continuous "rocky" terrain, with ups and downs that peek out at the spectacular canyons of the Miño River. The landscape is dominated by the vineyards of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, planted in terraces that defy the steepness of the slopes. It's heroic viticulture resulting in high-quality wines. The route is dotted with small Romanesque churches, such as San Paio de Diomondi. This stage is perfect for enjoying a unique landscape in the world. Arrival at Chantada, one of Ribeira Sacra's capitals, marks the end of the stage. Its old town, with its archways and blazoned houses, has great charm. It's the perfect place to taste the local wines and enjoy the local cuisine.
