Stage Fazouro - San Cibrao

A 23.3-kilometre stage of medium difficulty that follows the old Camino Real from Viveiro to Ribadeo through the interior of A Mariña, a short distance from the coast. It leaves from the old bridge of Fazouro, next to the church of Santiago, rebuilt in 1750 and home to a 16th-century image of Saint James as a pilgrim, and climbs to the chapel of A Concepción, overlooking the Cantabrian coastal plain. It passes the manor house of Covas and the parish of Cangas and reaches A Areoura beach, the border with Burela, along an earth track. After crossing this major fishing port by the church of Vila do Medio, with late Gothic mural paintings, the way reaches the historic complex of Sargadelos and the town of Cervo, whose church of Santa María has a font decorated with pilgrim scallop shells. The final stretch descends to San Cibrao, a former whaling port where the old pilgrim hospital is now the chapel of San Andrés.
