Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This long stage joins two of the most monumental villages on the Camino Francés. The route crosses the Via Aquitana, an ancient Roman road, in a stretch with almost perfect straightness. The landscape is an immense plain of cereal fields. It's a day of deep introspection. The destination is Sahagún, cradle of Mudéjar art and an important service center in the province of León.
The stage connecting Carrión de los Condes with Sahagún is one of the most representative stages of the Meseta. The pilgrim faces a long journey along the ancient Roman road Vía Aquitana, in a nearly straight section that disappears into the horizon. The landscape is pure Camino country. It's a day for meditation, where the rhythm of footsteps and the line of the horizon set the pace. You pass through Calzadilla de la Cueza and Ledigos. The end of the stage arrives at Sahagún, one of the most important villages on the French Way. Mudéjar art is born here, with its churches of San Tirso and San Lorenzo being two masterpieces. The ruins of the Monastery of San Benito, which was one of the most powerful monasteries in Christendom, and the Pilgrim's Sanctuary complete an exceptional heritage. It's a must-see stop.
