Stage Description

This stage involves a radical change in landscape. Abandon the plain to venture into the first foothills of Sierra Morena. The profile is a continuous up and down, a "rocky terrain" that runs along dirt paths between oak and holm oak groves. It's a beautiful day with a typically Andalusian landscape, but demanding and with long solitary stretches and no services. The pilgrim must carry water and provisions. Arrival in Castilblanco de los Arroyos, an animated village nestled in the mountains, is the end of a pure nature stage.
The stage between Guillena and Castilblanco de los Arroyos immerses the pilgrim in the characteristic landscape of Sierra Morena's dehesas. The path finally leaves the Guadalquivir valley behind to venture into a terrain of gentle hills and a "breakneck" profile. The route mostly follows forest trails and cattle paths, through a beautiful landscape. The dehesas, with their scattered oak and holm trees, are home to Iberian pigs and fighting bulls, which can often be seen grazing near the path. It's a day to enjoy nature and silence. However, the stage is demanding. The continuous up-and-down terrain, although without large inclines, accumulates fatigue. Additionally, it's a very solitary stretch, with no intermediate town or water source, so it's essential to leave Guillena well-stocked on water and food. Shade is scarce, so sun protection is crucial. After several hours of walking in this natural environment, the arrival at Castilblanco de los Arroyos is a well-deserved reward. This white village, larger than the previous one, is nestled deep within the sierra and offers all the services needed by the pilgrim. Its Church of the Divine Savior and lively atmosphere make it an excellent final stage.
