Stage Description

This stage is a pleasant coastal walk that continues along wooden boardwalks over the dunes. It's a short and completely flat journey, ideal for enjoying the Atlantic landscape without great exertion. The route passes through historic Vila do Conde, with its impressive Monastery of Santa Clara and old shipyard. After crossing the Ave River, it arrives at Póvoa de Varzim, an animated coastal town with a long beach, casino, and all services. It's an stage that combines natural beauty of the coast with historical heritage and vibrant atmosphere of its marinas.
The stage between Labruge and Póvoa de Varzim is a continuation of the spectacular journey along the Portuguese coast. The day is short, flat, and very pleasant, mostly following the same wooden walkways that characterize this part of the route. The pilgrim walks among dunes and beaches with the ocean always in sight. The first major milestone of the day is arriving at Vila do Conde, a city with a rich heritage. It is essential to visit the imposing Monastery of Santa Clara, which dominates the town, and stroll through its old town. After crossing the Ave River, the route enters Póvoa de Varzim, a larger and more touristy city. Famous for its long sandy beach, casino, and lively atmosphere, Póvoa de Varzim offers a contrast with the tranquility of the previous villages. Its waterfront is filled with restaurants and terraces, and the town has all the services that the pilgrim may need. It's an ideal end to the stage to enjoy a summer atmosphere and local cuisine.
