Póvoa de Varzim, one of the most important coastal cities in northern Portugal, is a fundamental and very crowded stage on the Portuguese Way of the Coast. With a long fishing tradition, the city offers pilgrims a vibrant atmosphere and a complete range of services. Its main attraction is its extensive waterfront promenade and golden sandy beaches, inviting a refreshing rest and contemplating the vastness of the Atlantic. The fishermen's quarter, with its colorful houses and restaurants, allows pilgrims to taste the freshest fish and seafood. For pilgrims, Póvoa de Varzim is a meeting point, a place for socializing and sharing experiences after the first stages. Although it is a modern city, it preserves its maritime soul, visible in its port and traditions. The Jacobean route traverses the city following the coastline, on a mostly flat and very pleasant journey that prepares the walker for the next stages along the Portuguese coast to Santiago de Compostela.
