Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This stage enters the Manchegan plain. The profile is completely flat. The landscape is that of a plateau in its maximum expression: infinite horizons and fields of grain. It's a day of great solitude and austere beauty. The big incentive of the day is the Laguna de Pétrola, a wetland of great ecological value, famous for its population of flamingos. It's a naturalist stop of first order.
The stage that joins Montealegre del Castillo with Pétrola is an immersion in the Manchegan plain. The profile is completely flat, and the road advances through dirt tracks that get lost in the horizon. The landscape is of austere beauty, with cereal fields. The great attraction of the journey is the Salty Lake of Pétrola, a wetland of great importance for the nesting of water birds, among which stands out the flamingo. It's a spectacle to observe these birds in their natural habitat. The arrival at Pétrola, a small Manchegan town, is the end of the stage. Its tranquil atmosphere is perfect for the pilgrim's rest.
