Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This stage of the Camino del Levante links Arévalo (Historic-Artistic Heritage, with its famous Mudejar ensemble of brick churches) with Medina del Campo, a former merchant town in the Middle Ages. The 27 km are flat through the Tierra de Pinares and Tierra de Medina of Valladolid. Medina preserves the Plaza Mayor (scene of medieval fairs) and the Castillo de la Mota, historical fortress-prison.
The stage between Yecla and Montealegre del Castillo is a journey that takes the pilgrim from the Region of Murcia to the province of Albacete. The profile is a gentle but continuous ascent towards the plateau. The landscape is a mix of vineyards and fields of grain. Arrival at Montealegre del Castillo is impressive. The town is dominated by its spectacular medieval castle, which rises above a rocky outcrop. It's one of the region's most beautiful strongholds. The town, with white houses, stretches at the feet of the castle. It's a monumental end to the stage and a perfect place to enjoy history and landscape.
