Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage of the English Way is a short but challenging day with ups and downs that traverses the heart of the region. The path leaves the estuary to venture into the interior, through a landscape of eucalyptus forests and small villages. The profile is demanding, with an initial steep climb as you leave Neda. The route offers an authentic Galician rural experience. The arrival in Pontedeume, descending again towards the coast, is a great reward, allowing the pilgrim to enjoy this beautiful medieval village at leisure.
The stage that unites Neda and Pontedeume is a short but intense journey that serves to show the pilgrim the "tough" character of interior Galicia. Unlike the previous day's journey, here the path moves away from the estuary to venture into the hills and forests of the comarca. The departure from Neda already sets the tone for the day, with a demanding ascent that puts the legs to the test. The route runs on dirt paths and "corridors", in an environment of great natural beauty, dominated by eucalyptus forests. It is a solitary and tranquil stage, which allows one to enjoy the silence and authenticity of rural Galician landscape. After overcoming the mid-mountain zone, the path begins a pleasant descent towards the Ares estuary. The views of the estuary and the village of Pontedeume from above are a magnificent reward for the effort. The arrival at Pontedeume, with its imposing medieval bridge and tower, is the perfect finale to a day that combines the hardness of the mountain with the beauty of the coast.
