Stage Description
The last and exciting stage of the Camino Inglés. It is a short journey designed to arrive in Santiago with time to enjoy the city. The first part traverses rural surroundings but soon enters the outskirts of Compostela, passing through the industrial area of Tambre. Despite this less attractive section, excitement grows with every step. The entry into the historic quarter from the north, via the San Roque neighborhood, leads the pilgrim along cobblestone streets to the majestic Plaza del Obradoiro. The view of the Cathedral is the final destination, an unforgettable reward for all the effort.
The final stage of the English Way is a short and exciting walk to the heart of Santiago de Compostela. The journey is dominated by emotion and anticipation of reaching the destination. The path leaves Sigüeiro and, after an initial rural section, faces the least appreciated part of the route: crossing the industrial polygon of Tambre. It's a long asphalt stretch that should be passed as quickly as possible. Beyond the polygon, the path enters Santiago's peripheral neighborhoods. Slowly but surely, the pilgrim is approaching the historic center. The entrance to the monumental area is made through the north of the city, via Rúa dos Concheiros and Rúa de San Pedro, a street filled with life, featuring numerous bars and shops for pilgrims. At the end of Rúa de San Pedro, one crosses the Porta do Camiño, one of the ancient gates of the wall, and it's already packed in the magic of the old town. The streets narrow, the floor is stone, and the emotion overflows. A final turn down a low passageway under the Palace of Xelmírez, and suddenly, the vastness of Praza do Obradoiro opens up. The overwhelming view of the baroque façade of Santiago Cathedral is the end of the Camino, an indescribable moment of intensity.
