Stage Description

The last stage of the Via del Nord is a continuous ascent to the sacred Sanctuary of La Verna, where Saint Francis received the stigmata. It's a journey of great emotional and spiritual load that culminates at one of the most important places in Franciscanism. The path crosses a sacred forest, preparing the pilgrim for arrival. The sanctuary, embedded in the rock, is a place of deep peace and prayer. An exciting and unforgettable ending to the trail.
The final stage of the Via del Nord is a 15km journey that culminates at La Verna Sanctuary. The route starts from Pieve Santo Stefano (431m) and follows an ascending profile, with continuous ascent to the sanctuary (1128m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape with oak and beech forests, offering panoramic views of the valley. It is an demanding walk that requires good physical preparation. Arrival at La Verna Sanctuary is a moment of great emotion. It was here where St Francis received the stigmata. The sanctuary, set into the rock, is a place of deep peace and prayer. Visiting the chapel of the stigmata and St Francis's bed is an unforgettable experience. This stage combines a great physical challenge with total immersion in history and spirituality.
