Stage Description

First stage of the Camiño do Mar, the pilgrim route that follows the northern coast of Galicia to Ferrol. It sets out from Ribadeo, a port town on the Eo estuary, the natural border with Asturias, and heads west along the Cantabrian Sea through the coast of A Mariña in Lugo. The 24 kilometres pass the fishing harbour of Rinlo and skirt As Catedrais beach, a natural monument whose sea-carved rock arches can only be walked at low tide, before linking the sandy beaches of Reinante and Barreiros. The profile is gentle, with coastal paths, rural tracks and some tarmac. The day passes through San Cosme de Barreiros, a quiet small coastal village next to its beaches, and ends at the A Espiñeira bridge over the river Masma, on the border with Foz.
