Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This is a "superstage" that connects two of the great monasteries in Spain's history. It is a long-distance journey that crosses the meseta, uniting the Sierra de Madrid with the province of Cuenca. It is a major challenge, only suitable for highly prepared pilgrims or to be completed over several days. The landscape is that of the Castilian plain. The arrival at the Monastery of Uclés, the "Escorial of La Mancha", head of the Order of Santiago, is the end of an epic journey.
Joining El Escorial and Uclés in a single stage is a monumental challenge, a journey that crosses the heart of the Meseta. This symbolic route connects two of Spain's most important monasteries. The path descends from the Madrid mountains into the Castile-La Mancha plain. The landscape is the Meseta at its maximum expression: fields of grain, vineyards and olive groves, on a terrain of endless horizons. Arrival in Uclés marks the end of this journey. The village is dominated by its impressive monastery, which was the main house of the Order of Santiago. Its architecture, which blends Renaissance and Baroque styles, and its imposing presence atop a hill, have earned it the nickname "The Escorial of La Mancha". It's a pilgrimage ending weighed with history and spirituality.
