Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Stage along the central Asturian coast in the heart of the Costa de los Dinosaurios. The 21 km link Ribadesella with Colunga through rural villages and along beaches with footprints and fossil remains of the Jurassic. The route passes near the Jurassic Museum of Asturias (MUJA), a world reference in paleontology, and allows to contemplate the typical Asturian hórreos and paneras. Colunga is a small town with cider tradition and Indian architecture.
Joining El Escorial and Uclés in a single stage is a monumental challenge, a journey that crosses the heart of the Meseta. This symbolic route connects two of Spain's most important monasteries. The path descends from the Madrid mountains into the Castile-La Mancha plain. The landscape is the Meseta at its maximum expression: fields of grain, vineyards and olive groves, on a terrain of endless horizons. Arrival in Uclés marks the end of this journey. The village is dominated by its impressive monastery, which was the main house of the Order of Santiago. Its architecture, which blends Renaissance and Baroque styles, and its imposing presence atop a hill, have earned it the nickname "The Escorial of La Mancha". It's a pilgrimage ending weighed with history and spirituality.
