Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Final stage of the Northern Way before merging with the French Way in Arzúa. The 22 km run through the region of Terra de Melide-Arzúa, characteristic of rural Galicia with smallholdings, granaries and eucalyptus groves. Arzúa is famous for its P.D.O. cheese, the Arzúa-Ulloa, and for being the point of confluence of the Northern Way with the French Way. From here the last three classic stages to Santiago are shared with the French.
The stage between Almansa and Higueruela is an immersion in the Manchegan plain. The profile is completely flat, and the road advances along dirt tracks that get lost in the horizon. The landscape is of austere beauty, with fields of grain and vineyards. It's a stage of great solitude, ideal for meditation. Arrival at Higueruela, a small town in Albacete province, marks the end of the stage. Its tranquil atmosphere and authenticity offer a well-deserved rest to the pilgrim.
