Stage Description
Long stage through the interior of Lugo that leaves the Terra Chá and enters the region of Arzúa. The 39 km link Baamonde with the Cistercian monastery of Sobrado dos Monxes, founded in 952 and declared a Historic-Artistic Monument. The route crosses rural Galician areas with meadows and Atlantic forests, with undulating profile and several crossings of small rivers. The monastery is still inhabited by Cistercian monks and offers accommodation to pilgrims.
The stage that connects Moixent with Almansa is a long journey that takes the pilgrim from the province of Valencia to Albacete. The profile is a gentle but constant ascent, which rises to the Castilian tableland. The landscape is austere in beauty, with extensive fields of grain and vineyards. Arrival at Almansa is impressive. The city is dominated by its spectacular Moorish castle, which towers over a rocky outcrop in the plain. It is one of Spain's most photogenic castles. In addition to the castle, Almansa has an interesting heritage, such as the Palace of the Counts of Cirat.
