This is the queen stage of entering Galicia, the mythical ascent to O Cebreiro. The route is a continuous climb through the Valcarce valley, which becomes harder in the last kilometers. It's a day of great beauty and physical demand. Arrival at O Cebreiro, a village of pallozas and legends, is a magical moment. It's an epic journey that marks the entry into the land of the Apostle.
The stage from Villafranca del Bierzo to O Cebreiro is the queen of the entry into Galicia, one of the most difficult and beautiful stages on the entire Camino de Santiago. With a distance of 28 kilometers, the stage is marked by a continuous and demanding ascent that exceeds 1,300 meters in altitude. The path starts from Villafranca del Bierzo (500 m) and begins an ascending journey that surpasses 800 meters of drop-off. The route traverses a spectacular landscape, with dense forests, deep valleys, and panoramic views that disappear into the horizon. It's a very solitary stage that requires excellent physical preparation and good planning. The wild beauty of the surroundings is the great reward for the effort. After conquering the pass, the arrival in O Cebreiro (1300 m), a village of pallozas and legends, is a magical moment.
