Stage Description
Stage of the Camino de la Lana through the Alcarria of Cuenca. The 20 km link Villar de Domingo García with Villaconejos de Trabaque, crossing a landscape of Mediterranean scrubland, junipers and traditional wicker fields. Villaconejos is a small town in Cuenca historically linked to the cultivation and craftsmanship of wicker.
This stage is an urban and peri-urban route that takes the pilgrim out of Bilbao following the Nervión River. The route passes through the industrial and working-class area of the Left Bank, a landscape that testifies to the region's mining and ironworks past. It is a paved stage but of great social and historical interest. The journey ends in Portugalete, with its spectacular Hanging Bridge, World Heritage Site, one of the world's most impressive engineering works.
