O Cebreiro

O Cebreiro is the mythical entrance gate to Galicia for French Way pilgrims, a place where history, legend and nature merge creating an unique atmosphere. Settled on top of a mountain at 1,300 meters altitude, this small pre-Roman village welcomes the walker with its singular pallozas, ancient stone houses with thatched roofs. Its pre-Romanic church of Santa María la Real from the 9th century is one of the oldest along the route and guards the Galician Holy Grail, protagonist of a famous eucharistic miracle. Often shrouded in mist, O Cebreiro offers breathtaking views of Os Ancares mountains and an unforgettable welcome to Galician lands, marking a before and after point in the spiritual and physical journey of the pilgrim.
