The Town

Discover Salamanca

Salamanca, the "Golden City" for the color of its Villamayor stone, is one of the most dazzling and culturally rich stops on the Silver Route. Declared a World Heritage Site, its vibrant energy, born from its historic university, blends with an unparalleled monumental heritage. The heart of the city is its Plaza Mayor, considered one of Spain's most beautiful squares and a perfect place for weary pilgrims to rest. A visit to the cathedral complex is mandatory, with the unique feature of being able to admire two united cathedrals: the Old Cathedral, a gem of Romanesque architecture, and the New Cathedral, in late Gothic style. The ornate Plateresque façade of the University, featuring its famous frog, the Casa de las Conchas, and the Roman Bridge over the Tormes River are among many treasures it offers. For pilgrims, Salamanca is a center of knowledge, art, and life, with an excellent network of services and hostels. It's an stage that invites you to stay more than one day, to immerse yourself in its unique atmosphere and recharge your spirit before continuing on the camino through Castile.
