Xerta

Xerta is a village in the province of Tarragona with a deep connection to the River Ebro. Its main monument is the "Assut de Xerta", an imposing dam of Arab origin and rebuilt during the Renaissance, which diverts water from the river for irrigation through the canals of the Right and Left banks of the Ebro. This engineering work is a spectacle and a milestone on the Ebro Route of St James. The local town, with agricultural tradition, offers a peaceful atmosphere and services for pilgrims. It's an ideal stop to admire the symbiosis between man and river, enjoy the riverine landscape and rest before continuing the route towards Tortosa.
