Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
Stage through the Terra Chá of Lugo, an inland region of Galicia characterized by its peat bogs, meadows and wide horizons. The approximately 22 km are flat, ideal for a comfortable walk. Vilalba is the historical capital of Terra Chá, with the tower of the Andrade family (15th century) nowadays converted into a Parador Nacional. The region is famous for its cheeses, Vilalba capon and traditional bread. Short transition stage prior to the final days of the North.
The stage that connects Almussafes with Xàtiva is a long journey through the interior of Valencia province. The profile is a gentle but constant ascent. The landscape remains dominated by orange groves. Passages are made through localities such as Algemesí, declared a World Heritage Site for its Fiestas of Our Lady of Salut. Arrival in Xàtiva is the day's main prize. This city, with immense historical importance, is dominated by its spectacular castle, with its walls and panoramic views. Xàtiva was the birthplace of the Borja family, which gave two popes to Christianity. Its old town is a treasure trove of churches, palaces, and fountains. It's an obligatory stop on the Levante Way.
