Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Third stage of the Camino Aragonés, a spectacular journey through the Berdún channel and the Yesa reservoir. The 27 km cross a rugged and almost deserted landscape of the Jacetania, with views of the Pyrenees and the Sierra de Leyre. Ruesta is a village abandoned after the construction of the Yesa reservoir (1959), partially recovered as a pilgrims' hostel and cultural center by the CGT. This is an atmospheric stage with a strong historical significance.
The stage between Caudete and Almansa is a journey that ventures into the Manchegan plain. The profile is a gentle but continuous ascent to the meseta. The landscape is austere in beauty, with extensive fields of grain and vineyards. Arrival at Almansa is impressive. The city is dominated by its spectacular Moorish castle, which rises over a rocky outcrop in the plain. It is one of Spain's most photogenic castles. In addition to the castle, Almansa has an interesting heritage, such as the Palace of the Counts of Cirat.
