Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
Farewell stage of Cantabria and entry into Asturias by Colombres. The 28 km link Comillas with Colombres through San Vicente de la Barquera (with its famous bridge over the estuary and the church of Santa María de los Ángeles) and the Natural Park of Oyambre. Colombres is the first Asturian town on the Camino, home to the Archivo de Indianos in the spectacular Quinta Guadalupe, an example of 19th century Indiano architecture.
This stage marks the entry into Asturias. The route follows the coastline path, passing through the beautiful marina town of San Vicente de la Barquera, with its bridge and castle over the estuary. After crossing the Deva River, the pilgrim is received by the first Asturian localities, Colombres. This village is famous for its spectacular Indian architecture, the houses built by emigrants who made their fortune in America. It's a stage of great landscape beauty and architectural richness.
