Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage marks the passage of the Valencian Community to the Region of Murcia. The profile becomes more demanding, with an upward and downward trend through a landscape of vineyards and low hills. It is a day of great beauty and solitude. Arrival in Yecla, one of the wine capitals of Murcia, with its basilica and lively atmosphere, offers a well-deserved rest and welcome to Murcian lands.
The stage that connects Villena with Yecla is a transition journey that takes the pilgrim from the province of Alicante to the Region of Murcia. The profile is a continuous up and down on the slopes of the Sierra de Salinas. The landscape is dominated by the vineyards of the D.O. Yecla. It's an etapa of great beauty, which runs through a rural and solitary environment. Arrival in Yecla marks the end of the stage. This important city is the heart of one of Spain's most important wine-producing comarcas. Its Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, with its blue tile dome, is the symbol of the city. Its old town, with its churches and houses, has a great charm. It's a perfect place to rest and enjoy the wines and local cuisine of the region.
