Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
The exit from the city is long and urban. The path heads northwest, passing through Maracena and Atarfe. Slowly, the asphalt gives way to dirt tracks that wind between fields of cultivation, choperas, and orchards, a fertile landscape watered by the Genil River.
The profile is predominantly flat, allowing for comfortable walking, ideal for the first day. In the distance, the peaks of Sierra Nevada accompany the pilgrim throughout much of the route.
The final stage ends in Pinos Puente, an important locality of the vega. Its name comes from its impressive stone bridge, of medieval origin, which was a strategic point in communication between Granada and Córdoba. The village offers all the necessary services for the pilgrim and a well-deserved rest after a first day that connects the greatness of the Nasrid kingdom with the humble path of the pilgrim.
