Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

The Camino Mozárabe begins in the monumental city of Granada. This first stage is a transition day that allows the pilgrim to say goodbye to the Alhambra city and enter the fertile Vega de Granada. The profile is mostly flat and runs through an agricultural landscape. The route passes through towns such as Atarfe. It's an acclimatization phase, which becomes increasingly rural as it progresses, ending in the town of Pinos Puente, known for its medieval origin bridge.
The start of the Mozárabe Way from Granada is an experience loaded with history and beauty. Starting from the heart of the city, with the Alhambra as a witness, this first stage serves to allow the pilgrim to bid farewell to urban bustle and enter the landscape of the Vega de Granada.

The exit from the city is long and urban. The path heads northwest, passing through Maracena and Atarfe. Slowly, the asphalt gives way to dirt tracks that wind between fields of cultivation, choperas, and orchards, a fertile landscape watered by the Genil River.

The profile is predominantly flat, allowing for comfortable walking, ideal for the first day. In the distance, the peaks of Sierra Nevada accompany the pilgrim throughout much of the route.

The final stage ends in Pinos Puente, an important locality of the vega. Its name comes from its impressive stone bridge, of medieval origin, which was a strategic point in communication between Granada and Córdoba. The village offers all the necessary services for the pilgrim and a well-deserved rest after a first day that connects the greatness of the Nasrid kingdom with the humble path of the pilgrim.
