Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
The path starts from Pinos Puente, and after some kilometers of gentle approach, it begins the ascent into the Western Mountains of Granada. The climb is long and constant, along dirt paths that wind between olive groves and mountain undergrowth. As altitude is gained, views of the Vega de Granada and Sierra Nevada become impressive.
It's a solitary journey with great scenic beauty, requiring good physical preparation. It's essential to carry enough water, since there are no springs in the ascent stage.
Arrival at Moclín is the reward for all that effort. This white village, hanging from a rock, is one of the most picturesque on the route. It's dominated by its imposing castle-fortress Nazarí, which was a strategic point in defending the Kingdom of Granada. Visiting the castle and walking along the walls offers unforgettable panoramic views. Moclín, with its medieval atmosphere and hospitality, is a perfect final stage to recover and enjoy the essence of Andalusian mountain villages.
