Stage Description

Leaving behind the monumental Plasencia, this stage enters into Ambroz Valley. The profile is a gentle but continuous ascent. The great incentive of the journey is the arrival at the ruins of the Roman city of Cáparra, one of the most important archaeological sites on the Via de la Plata. Its impressive four-faced arch, unique in Spain, is the symbol of the route. This stage is loaded with history, allowing the pilgrim to walk on the ancient Roman road and immerse himself in the past of the Empire.
The stage that begins in Plasencia is a journey through time to the Roman era. The path enters the Ambroz Valley, on a terrain of gentle ascent. The route follows the ancient Roman road faithfully and the pilgrim can walk over original sections and see several milestones. The destination and main attraction of the journey are the ruins of the Roman city of Cáparra. This archaeological site is one of the most important along the Via de la Plata. Its icon is the Arco de Cáparra, an impressive quadrifrontal arch (four-faced) that stood in the center of the city's forum. Walking through the cardo and decumano of the ancient city, visiting its interpretation center, and contemplating the arch is an unforgettable experience. The end of the stage usually takes place in Oliva de Plasencia, the closest town to the site, which offers the necessary services for the pilgrim.
