Stage Description
This long stage ventures into the heart of Ribatejo, land of horses and bulls. The route is flat but very demanding due to its distance. It's a day to enjoy the landscape of the lezíria, the alluvial plain of the Tagus River. Arrival in Santarém, Portugal's Gothic capital, perched on a hill over the river, is a monumental reward. It's an overcoming stage that strengthens both body and spirit.
The Azambuja to Santarém stage is a 33 km long journey that ventures into the heart of Ribatejo. The trail starts in Azambuja (20 m) and follows an undulating profile, with a gentle ascent towards Santarém (80 m). The route traverses a beautiful landscape, featuring the lezíria, the alluvial plain of the Tagus, as its main protagonist. It is an demanding walk due to its length, but it rewards with the beauty of its scenery and the monumental grandeur of the destination. Arrival in Santarém, the Gothic capital of Portugal, is a moment of great emotion. It's a stage of great effort that is rewarded with a monumental finish.
