Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

First fully Galician stage of the Camino del Norte. The route moves away from the coast and enters the region of A Mariña Central, crossing rural villages and eucalyptus forests. The 22 km have an undulating profile with moderate slopes. Gondán is a small parish in the municipality of Trabada with an agricultural and livestock tradition. This is a transition stage that marks the change of landscape from the Atlantic coast to the Galician countryside.
The stage between Estremera and Barajas de Melo is an demanding day that takes the Madrid Community pilgrim to the province of Cuenca. The profile is a continuous rise and fall over the hills of Alcarria. The landscape is dominated by fields of wheat and sunflowers. The path runs on dirt tracks, in a setting of great solitude. Arrival at Barajas de Melo, already in Cuenca, marks the end of the stage. This village has an interesting heritage, including its church and several hermitages. Its peaceful atmosphere is perfect for the pilgrim's rest.
