Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
Stage along the northern slope of the Sierra de Alcaraz, with a predominantly downhill profile. The approximately 28 km link Riópar with the small town of Vianos through rural tracks and forest roads. The landscape changes gradually from Mediterranean mountains to cereal fields, with centenary olive groves and scattered pastures. Vianos preserves a traditional Manchego-Serrano architecture and its 16th century parish church of the Assumption. A day of geographical transition to the plains of La Mancha.
The stage up to Arzúa becomes a crucible for pilgrims. It is a short and pleasant journey that allows for relaxed walking. The profile is the characteristic Galician broken stone path, but with very gentle slopes. The route runs through a beautiful landscape, alternating shaded earth tracks under oak and eucalyptus forests. The scent of eucalyptus and wet field is constant. One of the most picturesque points on the stage is the village of Ribadiso da Baixo, just before Arzúa. Here, a beautiful medieval bridge crosses the Iso River, alongside one of the public hostels with the most charm. The final stage ends with the ascent to Arzúa. This important town is known as "the land of cheese" for its famous Tetilla cheese, backed by the Arzúa-Ulloa Designation of Origin. Additionally, in Arzúa, the North Way also converges, so the pilgrim atmosphere is even more intense if possible.
