Stage Description

This long stage is the first full day in Galicia for many pilgrims. The route is demanding, with a "break-a-leg" profile that includes the tough climb up Alto de A Madalena. The route crosses the Louro valley, passing through the industrial town of O Porriño (where it's recommended to take the riverine variant to avoid the industrial area). The landscape is a mosaic of rural zones, forests and more urbanized areas. The arrival in Redondela, a maritime village on Vigo's ria, famous for its viaducts, marks the union with the Costa Way, creating a lively pilgrim atmosphere.
The stage that connects Tui with Redondela is a long journey that consolidates the pilgrim's experience in Galician lands. The profile is demanding, a continuous up and down that requires good effort management. The route leaves Tui and crosses the Louro river valley. Passing through O Porriño is one of the most disputed points, as the original route passes over an industrial polygon. Fortunately, there is an alternative variant, well signposted, which runs along a pleasant fluvial path. After O Porriño, the road faces the climb to A Madalena's high point. Overcome the high point, a descent takes the pilgrim towards Redondela. This maritime village, located at the bottom of Vigo's bay, is unmistakable by its two large train viaducts that cross it at great height. Redondela is a fundamental meeting point, as here converge pilgrims on the Central Route with those coming from the Coastal Variant.
