Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Stage of the Southeastern Way (also shared with the Camino de la Lana) in the corridor between the provinces of Alicante and Albacete. The 18 km link Villena (with its impressive castle of La Atalaya and the Iberian treasure of Cabezo Redondo) with Caudete, an Albacete town famous for its Moors and Christians. The landscape is of irrigated meadows, vineyards and horticultural crops.
The stage between Las Mesas and El Toboso is a day of deep literary flavor. The road, flat and without obstacles, enters the heart of Don Quixote's La Mancha. The landscape is as described by Cervantes: an immense plain, dotted with vineyards and olive groves. Arrival at El Toboso is a very special moment. This village is world-renowned for being the homeland of Dulcinea, Don Quixote's beloved. Everything in the town breathes literature: the Casa-Museo of Dulcinea (a recreation of a 16th-century Manchegan house), the Cervantine Museum (with editions of the Quijote in over 70 languages) and plaques with phrases from the novel adorning its streets. It's an end to the stage for a leisurely stroll, to wander through its corners and to immerse oneself in the universe of the most universal novel in Spanish literature.
