Discover Hernani

Hernani, a historic Guipuzcoan village located just a few kilometers from San Sebastián, is a cultural stop of great interest on the Vasco Interior Way. Although many pilgrims are drawn to the proximity of the capital, Hernani offers an more authentic and traditional experience of Basque Country. Its medieval old town layout has been declared a Cultural Heritage Site and preserves buildings of great interest such as the Town Hall and San Juan Bautista Parish. However, Hernani is world-famous for being one of the cradles of Basque cider. For the pilgrim, especially during the season (January to April), visiting one of its cideries and participating in the "txotx" ritual is an unforgettable cultural and gastronomic immersion. The village offers good services and a more tranquil atmosphere than neighboring San Sebastián. In the Camino de Santiago, it's a stop that allows pilgrims to connect with Basque roots and traditions before continuing on the route into Gipuzkoa's interior.
