Discover Irún
Irún, a city located at the confluence of the River Bidasoa, is an important starting point for two major Jacobean routes: the Camino del Norte, which follows the Cantabrian coast, and the Camino Vasco del Interior, which enters the heart of Euskadi. This role as a crossroads makes it a meeting point for pilgrims from all over the world who begin their adventure in Spain. Its strategic location, alongside the French Hendaya, has shaped its history. Although its monumental heritage is not extensive, places like the church of Our Lady of the Juniper and the hermitage of Saint Helena are of interest. The main function of Irún for pilgrims is to be a large center of services where they can prepare for their journey: here you can obtain the credential, find hostels and acquire all necessary equipment. The passage over the Puente de Santiago bridge on the Bidasoa River is a symbolic first step for many. Starting the Camino in Irún begins an experience of contrasts, saying goodbye to the border bustle and immersing oneself in the green landscapes of Vascos.
