Salas is one of the most charming and historic villages on the Primitivo Way. Its old town, declared a Historic Ensemble, transports the pilgrim to the Middle Ages. The silhouette of the locality is dominated by the imposing Tower and Valdés Salas Palace, connected by an arch bridge that forms a monumental spectacular ensemble. Just beside it, the Colegiata of Santa María la Mayor houses the mausoleum of Fernando de Valdés Salas, founder of the University of Oviedo, a masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance art.
