Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
Final stage of the Camino del Norte in Asturian territory. The 22 km link La Caridad with Ribadeo crossing the Eo estuary, natural border between Asturias and Galicia, over the spectacular bridge of Los Santos. Ribadeo is the first Galician town on the Camino, capital of A Mariña Lucense, with a historic center linked to emigration to the Indies (the Torre de los Moreno is a unique example of modernist Indian architecture). From here it can be combined with the Camino del Mar.
The route that connects Fuentenovilla with Estremera is a descent stage that takes the pilgrim from the Alcarria plateau to the Tajo River valley. The profile is very favorable, allowing for comfortable walking. The landscape changes as one descends, and the fields of grain give way to orchards and riverine forests. Arrival in Estremera, once again in the Community of Madrid, marks the end of the stage. This village, situated on the Tajo Riverbanks, boasts an interesting heritage, including its parish church and the remains of its castle. It is a place with all necessary services for the pilgrim and a very welcoming atmosphere.
